    A little personal history …
Did you ever wonder how people find their life’s work? My interest in helping people through Audiology comes directly from an experience in my family. My father had heart trouble and a hearing loss. He had a heart attack when I was only 12 years old and by the time I was in high school, had received several pacemakers, each one smaller and better than the last. Finally, he was implanted with an experimental pacemaker model. Unfortunately, he could not hear his cardiologist tell him to call immediately if there were any signs of trouble.

The pacemaker malfunctioned and my father was very sick and almost died when I was a senior in high school. I remember thinking to myself, “If I am able to prevent this kind of miscommunication for others, I feel I will have contributed to society.”

I went to college at Oregon State University in the School of Communication and transferred to the Speech Pathology/Audiology Department as a junior. I have never regretted my decision and continue to love what I do. My dear father is gone but his memory lives on every time I help someone hear well again!
